[00:00:19] Hello, everybody. Welcome to Enter The Rift Podcast, Season 1, Episode 6. I'm your host, Kenny, and joining me is my brother, Garrett.
[00:00:28] What up?
[00:00:29] And on this episode, we're going to be speaking about the Pale Crawlers.
[00:00:34] So, the Pale Crawlers are another phenomena in the paranormal that is actually kind of recent, similar to the term shadow people, like how we spoke in the previous episodes.
[00:00:46] This one entered the public domain in the early 2000s.
[00:00:52] Yeah, roughly around 2003, I believe.
[00:00:55] Yeah, basically, Pale Crawlers became more of a thing when the internet started to become more widespread.
[00:01:02] They gained popularity on internet forums.
[00:01:05] So, whether or not this is like an urban legend, or it's a creature that just was being reported more often, things really started to pick up once the internet came about.
[00:01:19] Yeah, and it's kind of similar how, like you mentioned, the shadow people thing.
[00:01:24] Although it's a new name, and it's been kind of reinvented for the internet culture era, but there's many folklores stretching back hundreds of years of very similar accounts of creatures and entities.
[00:01:41] I know, for one, shadow people, that's kind of been throughout all human history.
[00:01:47] The Pale Crawlers are more of a North American native folklore kind of deal.
[00:01:52] Mostly centered around the northeastern part of America and Canada.
[00:01:58] Though there have been sightings of them worldwide, even in like Russia, Brazil, and Australia.
[00:02:06] Witnesses generally describe them as humanoid entities between 5 and 7 feet tall.
[00:02:14] They have very long torsos and limbs, and generally they move on all fours with an unsettling, arachnid-like gait.
[00:02:22] They're usually very pale, hairless.
[00:02:26] Some people mention that they have like a leathery skin.
[00:02:30] Some people say it's more like translucent, with visible veins, or sometimes people can even see like bones.
[00:02:37] If they do have any hair, it's very wispy and not like a full head of hair.
[00:02:43] It's very scant.
[00:02:44] Like vellus hair.
[00:02:46] Like a peach fuzz.
[00:02:48] If that.
[00:02:49] Yeah, if at all.
[00:02:51] Kind of the general details might change throughout the descriptions, but the general appearance stays the same.
[00:02:59] It's more like a, have he been using lotion or not?
[00:03:02] Is he ashy?
[00:03:03] Or is he greasy?
[00:03:05] And another thing is, has he went to the dentist?
[00:03:07] Because they said they have like very large heads with mouths full of like needle-like or jagged teeth.
[00:03:13] And some even mention no mouth at all.
[00:03:16] Yeah, so one similar topic that we talked about that could be related to this is actually the Dover Demon.
[00:03:23] Right.
[00:03:24] So check out the Big Domey Homie episode if you want to hear more about that.
[00:03:28] So let's get into some stories and see what people have been seeing.
[00:03:33] So this story took place in 2010 in Illinois.
[00:03:37] So I'll be reading the story from the perspective of the eyewitness.
[00:03:43] In 2010, me and two friends decided we were going to check out some haunted stuff around out in the country in Effingham, Illinois.
[00:03:51] We live about 30 minutes away from there.
[00:03:53] This was a typical weekend night, driving out to the cemetery to respectfully explore.
[00:03:58] We were told the Casbah Cemetery deep in the woods surrounded by caves outside of Effingham was a really good place.
[00:04:05] So that night, we had to Effingham and stop for sodas at a gas station and then head to the country.
[00:04:11] It's about 1 to 2 a.m., so it's dark.
[00:04:14] I see something with yellow glowing eyes off the side of the country road, just past the ditch in the headlights.
[00:04:20] Too short to be a deer, but too big to be a possum or raccoon.
[00:04:24] As we get closer, it gets clearer, and I realize what I'm looking at is a skinny, hairless, and gray, human-like, but definitely not human.
[00:04:33] Crazy as hell-looking thing.
[00:04:35] It was crouched down.
[00:04:36] Its arms were incredibly long, and it looked like it could have been 7 foot tall or bigger standing up.
[00:04:42] I can feel myself get cold and my heart race and my hair stand on the back of my neck.
[00:04:47] I kind of whisper to myself, what the fuck?
[00:04:49] And then I hear my friend, Harley, in the backseat shout, what the fuck is that?
[00:04:55] Complete shock and terror set in, and I can't make a sound.
[00:04:59] Just staring at it, and by that time, we are right in front of it.
[00:05:03] Passing it, and it just watches us drive by.
[00:05:06] It slinks into the dark.
[00:05:08] Then we all just start screaming.
[00:05:10] Literally freaking the hell out.
[00:05:12] I was convinced it was a demon for months, but still doubted myself, even seeing it.
[00:05:17] Thinking my mind was playing tricks on me.
[00:05:19] We didn't even make it to the CAS bar that night.
[00:05:22] We went straight home.
[00:05:23] I couldn't sleep that night.
[00:05:25] Six months later, I'm at a different friend's house, and she gets a text from her cousin.
[00:05:29] It was the trail camera picture.
[00:05:32] I went cold again.
[00:05:33] The hair on the back of my neck so tall.
[00:05:35] I was seeing this thing again.
[00:05:37] I knew we weren't crazy, and that there was something to this.
[00:05:39] I knew for sure now that my mind wasn't playing tricks on me that night.
[00:05:43] He said he caught it on his trail camera one town over.
[00:05:46] He told us later it wasn't his camera, that he was just pranking us.
[00:05:49] But I immediately recognized it.
[00:05:51] I asked her to send me the picture, and I sent it to Hardly.
[00:05:54] He quickly replies that that's that fucking thing.
[00:05:58] I found out the picture was faked, but still can't help but to have my doubts.
[00:06:02] I researched the picture and demons to find some answers and found nothing.
[00:06:06] Fast forward to October 2012.
[00:06:09] I'm on Facebook, and I come across a page called Weird Effingham, Illinois.
[00:06:14] So of course I start coming through the entire page, and I find reports of sightings around
[00:06:18] the cemetery of creatures with glowing eyes.
[00:06:21] Nothing as in-depth as what I saw, but still enough to tell me that we are not the only
[00:06:26] ones who have seen something like that out there.
[00:06:28] I researched demons and paranormal some more, but still nothing.
[00:06:34] Then in 2014, I'm scrolling through my Facebook news feed, and the trail camera picture pops up.
[00:06:39] One girl I know posted it on the wall of another girl I know, so I immediately commented my
[00:06:45] story on it.
[00:06:46] When I go up to the previous comments, I see that one of the girls were talking about seeing
[00:06:49] one.
[00:06:50] She replied to my comment and told me that she had seen it in the county in Effingham,
[00:06:54] too, back in 2011.
[00:06:56] This guy we went to school with commented on the status, too, and said he had a friend that
[00:07:00] was super into the occult, and that she said that they are called ghouls.
[00:07:04] So I went right into researching ghouls, what I find buzzed my freaking mind.
[00:07:09] Laura says that they are cave dwellers.
[00:07:12] As I previously mentioned, the Casbah Cemetery is surrounded by caves.
[00:07:17] They feed on the freshly dead, and normally stay close to cemeteries to be close to food.
[00:07:22] They have been known to show themselves to humans when trying to get close to them to
[00:07:26] eat in times when the fresh deceased bodies are scarce.
[00:07:30] I went to images of them and can only find illustrations, but they look exactly like what
[00:07:34] I saw that night.
[00:07:36] Everything I was reading was falling perfectly into place.
[00:07:39] Lined up perfectly with my experience, I couldn't explain it away.
[00:07:43] Then last night I came across a Reddit post with a story too similar to mine.
[00:07:48] This is one of the most incredible things that has ever happened to me, and I will always
[00:07:51] search for more answers.
[00:07:53] So yeah, they were just a group of friends driving out at night to go explore a cemetery,
[00:08:01] and then they would drive by and see that.
[00:08:04] And yeah, honestly, a lot of the descriptions, they do kind of line up with ghouls, which would
[00:08:11] be a very scary thing to see, especially at night.
[00:08:14] You're going to a cemetery.
[00:08:16] I mean, you're kind of priming yourself to try to see something, but actually seeing something
[00:08:21] like that would be very, very scary.
[00:08:24] Oh, extremely.
[00:08:25] I mean, just the fact that, well, one, multiple people all saw at the same time, you know,
[00:08:30] it just wasn't you.
[00:08:31] I mean, even if you were priming yourself, like psyching up, the first guy didn't even say
[00:08:36] anything, right?
[00:08:36] Like he was just sitting there, and mentally he said, like, what the F?
[00:08:40] But his friend immediately started yelling.
[00:08:42] Yeah, the witness who wrote the account kind of whispered to herself, but her friend
[00:08:48] like screamed.
[00:08:50] Yeah.
[00:08:50] Yeah.
[00:08:50] So like, clearly, like, hey, if everybody's on edge and like amped up, but someone just
[00:08:57] goes, what the hell?
[00:08:58] Like, you know, no one else is just going to be like, just going, holy shit, holy shit.
[00:09:02] And just, you know, starts to, you know, freaking screaming and wailing.
[00:09:05] Oh yeah, for sure.
[00:09:06] So I think they, they all saw something and then, yeah, they probably made the right decision
[00:09:11] about this turning around and going straight home.
[00:09:13] They weren't like those dumb people in horror movies who are like, oh, let's go to the cemetery
[00:09:19] and explore after we just saw this monster.
[00:09:23] Let's not make it the typical white people in a horror movie situation where it's like, I'm
[00:09:27] going to investigate.
[00:09:29] Yeah.
[00:09:30] They played it smart and came down unscathed.
[00:09:33] Best thing to do when you see some weird shit or hear some weird shit and you're in the
[00:09:37] mountains, the best rule of thumb is no, you didn't go home.
[00:09:40] Oh yeah, for sure.
[00:09:41] And you see some weird shit.
[00:09:42] The thing that's going to help you the most is going, nope, and running out of there.
[00:09:46] Yeah.
[00:09:46] If you can just try to act natural, act like you didn't see anything and walk away and
[00:09:52] just be sure that you're not actually being chased, you know, general predator behavior
[00:09:59] kind of situation.
[00:10:01] Like you come across a bear, don't turn your back to it.
[00:10:03] Don't run, just act like act natural and don't try to look like prey.
[00:10:09] Right.
[00:10:10] So there's an, there was an, another story from somebody else.
[00:10:14] This way posted here to Reddit, this sighting occurred in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
[00:10:18] I have recently been staying with my parents on the other side of Del Haas Woods, waiting
[00:10:24] for my new apartment.
[00:10:25] Three nights ago, my partner had gotten an upsetting phone call from a family member.
[00:10:30] To blow off steam, he took off walking into these woods.
[00:10:34] I tried to trace after him, but he wouldn't respond to me.
[00:10:37] I initially turned back around to head back to my parents' house when I reached two houses
[00:10:42] down.
[00:10:43] I changed my mind and turned back around into the woods to find them.
[00:10:46] By the time I hit the first power line pole, I just couldn't walk any further.
[00:10:50] It was pitch black, pretty much no moonlight was out, and I wouldn't dare step off the
[00:10:55] main path to look for him even if I decided to keep walking.
[00:10:58] I started getting overwhelmed by the personal situation him and his family was in, so I just
[00:11:04] sat at that power line crying.
[00:11:05] I was being quite loud, just letting it all out because I figured I was alone and no one
[00:11:09] would hear me.
[00:11:10] Fifteen minutes passed by and I thought I heard him talking on the phone walking in a path to
[00:11:14] my right.
[00:11:15] I figured he must be finally heading back, so I continued to sit there and wait.
[00:11:20] Another ten to fifteen minutes went by and there was no sign of him.
[00:11:23] On the other side of the woods, across from me, I started hearing huffing, like a big animal.
[00:11:28] I kept telling myself it must be a buck who had run into me and was being wary of my presence.
[00:11:33] As I'm finally typing out a text message to my partner, it sounds like there's animals
[00:11:37] walking closer along the side of the trees.
[00:11:40] Listening to the huffing, I started to get freaked out by the way it sounded.
[00:11:44] The closer it got, the more of a pit was forming in my stomach.
[00:11:49] After sending the text, I looked up to see two big eyes glowing back at me making eye contact.
[00:11:54] It was shining a yellowish color.
[00:11:56] That's when I felt I was fearing for my life.
[00:11:59] No animal in the dark I have seen had its eyes glow without a light shining on it.
[00:12:04] I stood up and turned on my phone's flash, and that's when I saw it.
[00:12:08] A seven to eight foot tall humanoid looking creature on all fours.
[00:12:12] So white and pale it was like any light on it would reflect.
[00:12:16] As soon as my light hit it, it almost flinched.
[00:12:19] Instead of running off, it backed up just out of the light.
[00:12:22] Between looking up at it and back at my phone, I called my partner twice.
[00:12:27] No answer.
[00:12:28] I called my brother who would get there quicker.
[00:12:30] He was asleep.
[00:12:31] I decided to text my partner, help.
[00:12:34] After sending the text, I got the idea to start screaming at it in an attempt to make myself look bigger.
[00:12:39] It just kept watching me.
[00:12:41] The house closest to me turned on its backlight on, and it kept looking at the house and then back at me.
[00:12:47] My partner finally called back, and on speaker, I told him to run to me fast.
[00:12:51] While this was happening, the creature slowly backed into the woods, almost like it realized I was getting help.
[00:12:59] I lost sight of it completely by the time my partner was a minute away.
[00:13:03] When he finally got out, police had stopped us to ask questions.
[00:13:07] I told the one cop he would think I was crazy when he asked what I saw.
[00:13:11] I briefly described it in the midst of a panic attack, and the other cop stared at me wide-eyed.
[00:13:17] They told us to go back to our house, and they'd go look.
[00:13:19] About two minutes after sitting in the house, they were gone.
[00:13:23] I am 23 years old, going to EMT school.
[00:13:26] I don't smoke or drink or do any drugs.
[00:13:29] I don't hallucinate or hear voices.
[00:13:31] I don't believe in things like ghosts.
[00:13:34] I don't believe in things like Bigfoot or other creatures.
[00:13:37] Not even aliens inhabiting Earth.
[00:13:39] For the past three days, I've been full-blown traumatized, and I can't let it go.
[00:13:44] Every time I try to think, I might have just saw something different.
[00:13:47] My mind takes me right back to that moment in full detail.
[00:13:50] That whole encounter lasted seven minutes, but it felt like maybe one minute.
[00:13:54] I can't live the rest of my life without answers, and I don't know how to cope with what I saw.
[00:14:00] The fact that it was gone by the time my partner showed up, and the fact that I have no idea how long it truly was stalking me is haunting me.
[00:14:08] So that is a pretty chilling story.
[00:14:13] I couldn't imagine looking up from my phone, and there's just two glowing eyes staring at me, and then I shine my flashlight on it.
[00:14:22] And it's this creature just staring at you, staring at me.
[00:14:29] I don't know.
[00:14:29] Yeah, I mean, the glowing eyes without the actual direct source of light, like the eye shine, like an animal, that's definitely a reoccurring theme with a lot of the pill crawler stuff.
[00:14:41] For some reason, they have some sort of bioluminescent to their eyes, which is creepy, like very.
[00:14:47] Yeah, and it definitely shows that it's not natural.
[00:14:52] Anything natural is not really going to have a bioluminescent eye.
[00:14:56] They'll have eyeshine, like a cat, but that requires an external light to be shine on the animal, not having something that's glowing internally.
[00:15:06] So, yeah, being confronted with something that large and that unnatural, that would probably scare the shit out of me too.
[00:15:16] Yeah, and a lot of the descriptions of the pill crawler or the rake, it's usually...
[00:15:22] They range in size, but the majority of them, the reoccurring size you see is six to eight feet tall if it was standing upright.
[00:15:31] Almost all the stories, I say almost because there have been a few where it has stood up, but the majority of the stories you will read or listen to will mostly say that it's crawling, hence the name pill crawler.
[00:15:44] So, the reoccurring themes that you'll often see with the pill crawler is, like mentioned in this one, the bioluminescent eyes of like usually orange, orangish red.
[00:15:54] Often, interesting enough, that is the same as the Dover Demon.
[00:15:58] Go back to the big Domi Homie episode.
[00:16:00] Yeah.
[00:16:01] The reoccurring themes is mostly tall, lanky, kind of looks like a fentanyl attic, but worse.
[00:16:10] Long fingers, hence the name, rake.
[00:16:12] A fentanyl attic on chemo.
[00:16:14] Oh no, he got leukemia.
[00:16:18] This is what happens when you don't give money to the Make-A-Wish kids.
[00:16:21] See, they resurrect and they come back for your wallet.
[00:16:26] But yeah, this would be a pants-shittery situation.
[00:16:30] Oh yeah, for sure.
[00:16:31] Moving on.
[00:16:32] Jumping across the ocean, there are some stories from Australia as well.
[00:16:38] So, this person reported on the Crawler Sightings subreddit.
[00:16:43] I'm a grown-ass woman now, and I still can't sleep a night with the curtains open.
[00:16:47] In fact, when I moved into my current house, I installed dual curtain rods so that even if my light blocking curtains are open,
[00:16:54] there's a layer of privacy shears behind them to block any sight.
[00:16:58] I have seen the crawler four times.
[00:17:00] I don't truly know if it's the same one.
[00:17:02] They were all seen at different locations.
[00:17:04] It's been years since I last saw one, but I still feel like they were the same creature, or at least they knew me.
[00:17:11] The first time I was a very small child, perhaps four or five.
[00:17:15] My house was an old-style flood house, so it was technically two stories tall,
[00:17:20] but under the house was where we kept the car and our laundry room.
[00:17:24] Upstairs was where the living areas were.
[00:17:26] We were one of the only houses there.
[00:17:29] It was in the early days of the town, and there were only a few other houses on the cul-de-sac.
[00:17:35] The back of our property was maybe 500 meters from the ocean, but you couldn't see or hear the coastline from the house.
[00:17:41] There were some light rainforests surrounding our fully fenced house.
[00:17:45] My bedroom faced the back of the property.
[00:17:47] I woke up one night, which wasn't unusual for me because I was a very light sleeper.
[00:17:52] This particular night, my parents hadn't closed my curtains.
[00:17:55] When I looked towards my window, I could see it.
[00:17:58] Keep in mind I was on the second floor.
[00:18:01] I was looking through my window.
[00:18:03] I couldn't see much.
[00:18:04] The only light was coming from outside, but I could see the silhouette of its body.
[00:18:09] It was pale and thin, but still the frame of the creature was huge, easily two meters tall.
[00:18:16] It was hanging off of my roof, holding onto the frame of my window.
[00:18:19] And even though I couldn't see its face, I just knew it was looking at me.
[00:18:24] I was terrified.
[00:18:26] It's been almost two decades since I saw it, but I can still remember the intense fear I felt.
[00:18:32] It took me so much courage to get out of bed and to walk in my parents' room, where I finally fell back asleep.
[00:18:39] My parents told me it was just a dream.
[00:18:42] The next time I remember seeing it, I was probably around seven.
[00:18:45] I had moved houses probably a few months before, and my new house, about a 16-hour drive from my old place, was a single-story home.
[00:18:54] But still on the coast of the country.
[00:18:56] It was a lot further from the ocean, about five kilometers, but very much the same kind of area.
[00:19:02] We were one of the only houses in the area, and I had no neighbors.
[00:19:06] I woke up one night because I heard something banging against the metal fence.
[00:19:10] In Australia, we have a brand that makes fences and roofs out of corrugated metal that's been painted.
[00:19:16] They're quite common, about six-foot-high cream-colored metal fences, and they make an unmistakable noise when something hits them.
[00:19:24] I had no idea how anything could climb one of these fences.
[00:19:27] They're completely smooth and nothing to grab onto.
[00:19:31] Even in my teens, I tried sneaking out by jumping the fence, and I just slid right down again.
[00:19:36] At first, when I woke up, I thought some birds must have landed on the fence.
[00:19:40] But the noise continued for longer than it would take a bird to land.
[00:19:44] My next thought was that someone was trying to break into the house.
[00:19:48] I turned over in bed to take the window, and I saw it.
[00:19:52] Well, I actually didn't see it at first.
[00:19:54] It was very dark, and I don't remember how much of a moon.
[00:19:57] As my eyes adjusted, I could only make out the figure hunched down in front of my window.
[00:20:02] Even in the hunched-down pose, it was still huge.
[00:20:06] This time, I didn't run to my parents.
[00:20:08] Their bedroom was no longer across the hall.
[00:20:10] It was all the way down the opposite side of the house.
[00:20:13] And I'd have to pass so many uncovered windows to get there.
[00:20:16] I don't remember when I fell asleep, but I eventually woke up in the morning.
[00:20:20] And once again, my parents told me I must have been dreaming.
[00:20:25] However, from then on, they always came into my bedroom and closed my blinds before bed.
[00:20:30] The next time I saw it, I was nine.
[00:20:32] I know I was nine because I'd just moved schools and made friends with a girl who we'll call Casey.
[00:20:37] She invited me to stay at her house one night, and I was so excited.
[00:20:41] She was the first friend I'd made since moving schools and had been ages since I'd gotten to have a sleepover.
[00:20:46] Everything went great.
[00:20:47] The night was perfectly normal, and I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of Casey crying.
[00:20:52] I sat up in bed and asked her what was wrong.
[00:20:55] She pointed towards the window, where I saw the thing again.
[00:20:59] Unfortunately for me, Casey had a nightlight, and I could see much more of the creature than I ever saw before.
[00:21:05] It looked so crusty and dry.
[00:21:07] It was almost totally white, devoid of any real identifying features, except it stared at us with black eyes and mouth agape.
[00:21:15] Casey's window was small, and it had to hunch down to see us.
[00:21:19] We both got up and ran crying to her mom.
[00:21:22] She turned on the outside light and brought us back inside the bedroom,
[00:21:25] and pointed out a large gum tree outside the window that she tried to explain must have been what we saw.
[00:21:32] We argued with her that what we saw was right against the window and that's several meters away,
[00:21:36] and it wasn't to the left, it was to the right.
[00:21:39] Casey's mom eventually let us sleep on the couch.
[00:21:42] A couple months later, Casey stayed over at my house.
[00:21:45] When I woke up in the morning, Casey was gone.
[00:21:47] I asked my parents, and they told us that Casey had gotten up in the night and started crying, begging to go home.
[00:21:52] When I saw her again on Monday at school, she told me she got up at night to go to the bathroom,
[00:21:57] and when she walked past the lounge room, she could see the tall skin monster crawling through the trees at the bottom of my backyard.
[00:22:04] She never came to my house again, and I lost touch when I moved schools a few years later.
[00:22:08] I don't know what it was I saw.
[00:22:11] It can't have been sleep paralysis.
[00:22:12] I was able to move and speak and everything.
[00:22:15] It wasn't a dream because someone else saw it too.
[00:22:18] I don't know if this relates in any way, but when my partner moved into my house a few months ago,
[00:22:24] he opened the curtains one night before bed.
[00:22:27] This time it was a full moon.
[00:22:29] I had already fallen asleep.
[00:22:30] Now I'm living in a two-story house with my bedroom on the second floor again.
[00:22:34] I woke up in the middle of the night to my partner getting up and closing the curtains.
[00:22:39] When I asked him why, he told me he had a nightmare that there was a tall, skinny, white man clinging onto my roof,
[00:22:45] almost like a spider, and it was peering into my bedroom.
[00:22:48] He said it must have been a hallucination.
[00:22:50] He had been up all night playing video games.
[00:22:52] And when he got up from the bed, jumped back onto the roof.
[00:22:56] I still haven't told him, but his description of what he saw is exactly what I saw the first time I saw the crawler.
[00:23:02] Only now I'm living in a busy neighborhood with plenty of houses,
[00:23:06] unlike past experiences where I've been one of the only houses on the block surrounded by forest.
[00:23:11] I have always heard mimicking many times, but always drawn up to the imagination.
[00:23:17] Sometimes I hear my partner walk into the room and say hello at night.
[00:23:21] When I roll over, I see the light coming down the hallway,
[00:23:23] and I realize that he's still in the lounge room on the computer.
[00:23:27] I've heard my mother's voice a few times too.
[00:23:29] Throughout my childhood and all the homes I've lived in,
[00:23:32] we've had issues of dogs barking at nothing,
[00:23:34] insecurity, motion detector lights randomly coming on at night when nobody's there.
[00:23:39] I don't know if these two things are related or not,
[00:23:42] but I've heard similar happening in crawler-related stories before,
[00:23:45] and I thought I'd mention it.
[00:23:48] So that is really interesting.
[00:23:50] It's almost like they or it was specifically following her.
[00:23:57] And the fact that it was potentially mimicking her mom or her boyfriend's voice,
[00:24:04] that's pretty creepy.
[00:24:06] I haven't really heard too much of that,
[00:24:09] where that particular monster is making other voices to try to lure people out.
[00:24:17] Yeah, I've actually heard this story before,
[00:24:20] and I've heard others very similar, including the mimicry.
[00:24:25] Oh, okay.
[00:24:26] This is my first time actually hearing about this story,
[00:24:30] and I couldn't imagine seeing it so many times over the course of your life,
[00:24:35] especially as a child.
[00:24:36] That would be so scary.
[00:24:39] Yeah, that is just immediate pit of your stomach dropout kind of situation right there.
[00:24:47] Oh, yeah, for sure.
[00:24:48] That would be absolutely terrifying.
[00:24:50] And the fact that you can hear it climbing on the fence,
[00:24:52] and you know what's there.
[00:24:55] Yeah, and the fact that the mom was just like,
[00:24:58] oh, you just saw the tree.
[00:24:59] I mean, when you got multiple kids saying,
[00:25:03] no, it was over here, and it was this,
[00:25:06] and why wouldn't she just immediately go,
[00:25:08] well, maybe they saw a man, like an intruder.
[00:25:13] Or, like, you know, like,
[00:25:14] why was her first thing to just be like,
[00:25:16] ah, it's just kids.
[00:25:18] But both of them are freaking out,
[00:25:19] and they're both saying,
[00:25:21] we saw it here,
[00:25:22] and it looks like a man.
[00:25:23] So why didn't she just be like,
[00:25:25] there's a man outside?
[00:25:26] Yeah, there'd be,
[00:25:27] I would think,
[00:25:28] like something was going on.
[00:25:30] You know,
[00:25:31] tall,
[00:25:32] emaciated,
[00:25:33] you know,
[00:25:35] could use some coconut butter,
[00:25:37] but,
[00:25:37] you know,
[00:25:38] probably some fentanyl addict bogan.
[00:25:40] You know,
[00:25:40] just,
[00:25:41] you know,
[00:25:41] he doesn't have,
[00:25:42] you know,
[00:25:42] the mullet anymore,
[00:25:43] but,
[00:25:43] you know,
[00:25:44] he's just out there roaming the backyards.
[00:25:48] Yeah.
[00:25:50] Yeah.
[00:25:51] Just some,
[00:25:52] like,
[00:25:52] you know,
[00:25:52] all cracked out,
[00:25:53] a fentanyl addict.
[00:25:55] Yeah,
[00:25:55] cracked out freaking,
[00:25:56] uh,
[00:25:56] Aussie bogan,
[00:25:57] you know,
[00:25:57] roaming around,
[00:25:58] probably wearing,
[00:25:59] you know,
[00:26:00] just some typical bogan attire,
[00:26:02] some short shorts and no shirt.
[00:26:04] You never know.
[00:26:05] Yeah,
[00:26:05] maybe he's an alcoholic painter,
[00:26:07] and he just spilled a bucket of paint on himself,
[00:26:09] and then went,
[00:26:09] passed out in someone's yard,
[00:26:10] woke up,
[00:26:11] and started wandering for the neighborhood.
[00:26:14] There you go.
[00:26:14] If you want to rationalize it,
[00:26:15] it doesn't have to be,
[00:26:16] you saw a tree.
[00:26:19] You saw a tree.
[00:26:21] Yeah.
[00:26:21] It was a gum tree.
[00:26:22] Nah,
[00:26:22] nah,
[00:26:22] nah,
[00:26:22] nah,
[00:26:23] it's just a gum tree outside.
[00:26:24] And meanwhile,
[00:26:25] it's just like,
[00:26:25] uh,
[00:26:26] it was against a glass,
[00:26:28] and,
[00:26:29] uh,
[00:26:29] it was a dude.
[00:26:30] Yeah,
[00:26:31] or,
[00:26:31] you know,
[00:26:31] a freaking monster.
[00:26:33] Yeah.
[00:26:34] Or an eight foot tall Spider-Man thing,
[00:26:36] you know.
[00:26:37] Yeah,
[00:26:38] you know,
[00:26:38] you know,
[00:26:39] something that was going to haunt your dreams and give you PTSD.
[00:26:41] Yeah.
[00:26:43] You know,
[00:26:43] it was just,
[00:26:44] uh,
[00:26:44] freaking,
[00:26:45] uh,
[00:26:46] ashy,
[00:26:46] uh,
[00:26:47] Michael Jordan with viniligo.
[00:26:49] Jumping over to phantomsandmonsters.com,
[00:26:53] there were some more stories of pale crawlers reported.
[00:26:56] This one from the perspective of the witness.
[00:27:00] So a few years ago,
[00:27:02] my husband was driving home and it was around probably 10 PM.
[00:27:06] He saw something on the side of the road,
[00:27:09] crouched down over a deer,
[00:27:11] presumably eating it.
[00:27:12] This happened in rural upstate New York.
[00:27:15] He stopped the car to shine his headlights at it and see what it was.
[00:27:19] It bolted towards the car,
[00:27:21] hit it,
[00:27:21] and my husband took off.
[00:27:23] He said it was gray,
[00:27:24] skinny,
[00:27:24] and had long claw-like fingers.
[00:27:27] He said it looked exactly like some crawler images recently posted.
[00:27:31] Recently,
[00:27:32] he heard a weird screeching noise followed by a bubbling gurgling outside that kept repeating at night.
[00:27:37] It immediately went,
[00:27:38] he immediately went to investigate.
[00:27:40] He decided it was really freaky and decided to come inside.
[00:27:44] Weird things keep happening.
[00:27:46] Things go missing here.
[00:27:47] Stray cats have gone missing.
[00:27:50] We've had endless bad luck lately,
[00:27:52] like beyond what could be deemed coincidental.
[00:27:55] I'm wondering if this could all be related.
[00:27:57] If so,
[00:27:58] we'd like to know what we can do.
[00:28:00] So,
[00:28:01] yeah,
[00:28:01] another case of person's just driving along the road and like there,
[00:28:06] that thing is.
[00:28:07] But in this case,
[00:28:08] it,
[00:28:08] it charged the car.
[00:28:10] Yeah.
[00:28:10] That's pretty crazy.
[00:28:11] That's a unique one,
[00:28:12] but you know,
[00:28:13] the cats go missing and all this other stuff,
[00:28:16] you know,
[00:28:16] sound a lot like Springfield,
[00:28:18] Ohio.
[00:28:20] Yeah.
[00:28:21] Other than the charging the car fits general description.
[00:28:25] Although this is the first time I ever heard of one,
[00:28:27] like being like extremely aggressive.
[00:28:29] Most of the time,
[00:28:30] they just kind of scared a piss out of you and run away.
[00:28:32] Well,
[00:28:32] if they are like ghouls,
[00:28:34] they're more of like a scavenger and they're not so much a predator,
[00:28:39] but they could be a predator.
[00:28:41] Just so that's simply an opportunistic one.
[00:28:43] Yeah.
[00:28:43] That's exactly what I would say.
[00:28:45] A single person who may be thrale or weak,
[00:28:49] like a child or an elderly person that's like cut off from the group or is just out on their own in the dark,
[00:28:56] could be an easy victim for this thing.
[00:28:59] Yeah.
[00:28:59] That's like,
[00:29:00] I mean,
[00:29:00] I've heard,
[00:29:01] uh,
[00:29:02] multiple stories of kids.
[00:29:04] See them.
[00:29:04] That's the one that usually sticks around with,
[00:29:06] like just kind of like observing because most of the time,
[00:29:09] you know,
[00:29:09] the kids are inside,
[00:29:11] they can't get in,
[00:29:11] but it's still like,
[00:29:12] it wants to be inside.
[00:29:13] Other than a few like stories I've heard of like people going out on jogs at night or like really early in the morning or kids hearing like legends,
[00:29:22] like throughout the neighborhood of something going on.
[00:29:25] And,
[00:29:26] you know,
[00:29:26] they go out and look at night or I heard one story of a girl in her,
[00:29:31] um,
[00:29:31] I believe it may have been a cat.
[00:29:32] Could have been a dog.
[00:29:33] I can't remember.
[00:29:34] Regardless.
[00:29:34] It was a pet.
[00:29:35] And I think this was in Arizona,
[00:29:37] um,
[00:29:37] where they have a,
[00:29:38] like a lot of the,
[00:29:40] dry flood canals,
[00:29:41] like the concrete,
[00:29:42] like kind of like the LA river deal.
[00:29:44] Yeah.
[00:29:44] And she was looking for her,
[00:29:46] you know,
[00:29:48] dog cat,
[00:29:48] whatever it was.
[00:29:49] Um,
[00:29:50] and she went down in there to,
[00:29:53] and this was not a covered one,
[00:29:55] but it was near a road where,
[00:29:57] you know,
[00:29:57] you would have like the culvert,
[00:29:58] which would go underneath the road,
[00:30:01] which was covered.
[00:30:02] And,
[00:30:02] uh,
[00:30:03] she went down in there and was looking around and then got a,
[00:30:07] uh,
[00:30:07] a sighting of the pale crawler eating her pet.
[00:30:09] Oh God.
[00:30:10] Yeah.
[00:30:11] Also,
[00:30:12] uh,
[00:30:12] I heard another story where,
[00:30:14] um,
[00:30:15] you know,
[00:30:15] the previous case that's where it kind of like,
[00:30:17] I guess it was already eating.
[00:30:19] So it didn't really pursue her,
[00:30:20] you know,
[00:30:21] child alone and its habitat,
[00:30:24] you know,
[00:30:24] be a target.
[00:30:25] But,
[00:30:25] um,
[00:30:26] this next one,
[00:30:27] I,
[00:30:28] and this is right off top head,
[00:30:29] probably actually,
[00:30:30] you know,
[00:30:30] pull this stuff up.
[00:30:31] So I can show you directly,
[00:30:32] but I don't even know where I would find it.
[00:30:34] Cause I,
[00:30:35] this was a while ago when I seen this,
[00:30:37] uh,
[00:30:37] was a,
[00:30:38] I want to say army may have possibly been Marine Corps,
[00:30:43] but they were doing,
[00:30:44] uh,
[00:30:44] land nav at night.
[00:30:46] And he came across one of the pale crawlers when he was doing a,
[00:30:50] uh,
[00:30:50] a solo land nav.
[00:30:52] Uh,
[00:30:53] like it was a total,
[00:30:54] uh,
[00:30:54] no light,
[00:30:55] no white light,
[00:30:56] no red light,
[00:30:57] uh,
[00:30:57] no nods.
[00:30:58] Um,
[00:30:59] so,
[00:31:00] you know,
[00:31:00] you're not running MVGs.
[00:31:01] You're not running your,
[00:31:02] your white light.
[00:31:04] You don't have your red headlamp,
[00:31:05] like nothing.
[00:31:06] And like,
[00:31:07] you're just out in the dark pitch black.
[00:31:09] And he,
[00:31:11] uh,
[00:31:11] said he was going for a bunch of briars and he,
[00:31:15] uh,
[00:31:15] looked up on,
[00:31:16] like there was a small hill with a stump on it.
[00:31:19] And it,
[00:31:19] and it looked like a silhouette of,
[00:31:21] of fellow recruit.
[00:31:22] So he slowly crawled up thinking that maybe they're lost.
[00:31:27] They went to the highest point,
[00:31:29] you know,
[00:31:29] to skyline,
[00:31:31] maybe here to look around.
[00:31:32] Um,
[00:31:33] you know,
[00:31:33] they,
[00:31:34] they went to the nearest landmark,
[00:31:35] which,
[00:31:35] you know,
[00:31:36] generally what you want to do in land nav,
[00:31:37] except for under,
[00:31:38] you know,
[00:31:38] combat situation,
[00:31:39] you,
[00:31:39] you don't want to skyline yourself.
[00:31:41] So that's why he went up there to tell him,
[00:31:44] Hey,
[00:31:44] get down.
[00:31:45] Well,
[00:31:45] uh,
[00:31:45] you know,
[00:31:46] don't skyline.
[00:31:46] Um,
[00:31:47] you need help.
[00:31:47] You like you,
[00:31:48] you stuck.
[00:31:49] Um,
[00:31:49] but when he got up to it,
[00:31:50] it turned around and it was the pale crawler.
[00:31:53] And,
[00:31:54] uh,
[00:31:54] it ran off after him screaming and freaking the hell out like most would.
[00:31:58] Um,
[00:31:58] and of course this is land nav.
[00:31:59] So they're unarmed.
[00:32:01] I think maybe at most,
[00:32:02] they may have had their like three day assault bag with like the entrenching tool.
[00:32:08] So maybe he could have beamed it in the head with a shovel,
[00:32:11] but that would have been about it.
[00:32:13] Yeah.
[00:32:13] Without having any weapon at all,
[00:32:15] he had to,
[00:32:16] uh,
[00:32:17] go back to the,
[00:32:19] like their,
[00:32:20] uh,
[00:32:20] forward operating position for when they're doing the exercise and,
[00:32:25] uh,
[00:32:25] through the dark with that thing,
[00:32:27] just kind of like skulking around him the whole time.
[00:32:30] Oh man,
[00:32:31] that would be absolutely like,
[00:32:34] hell scary.
[00:32:35] Yeah.
[00:32:36] You're in the dark.
[00:32:37] I know probably some listeners who are like really like,
[00:32:40] um,
[00:32:40] into like this subject and like just general cryptids.
[00:32:43] They probably have heard a story I'm talking about and they could probably like,
[00:32:47] if they were cool,
[00:32:49] you know,
[00:32:49] then maybe they could pop a link in the comments,
[00:32:50] but yeah,
[00:32:51] that would be,
[00:32:52] that would be pretty cool.
[00:32:53] I would love to see.
[00:32:55] I would love to find that,
[00:32:57] uh,
[00:32:57] that story to read it myself,
[00:32:59] but I couldn't imagine you're out in the dark with not,
[00:33:03] not even a flashlight.
[00:33:04] Like,
[00:33:05] damn.
[00:33:06] Yeah.
[00:33:06] Just mostly freaking bear crawling through brush.
[00:33:09] And then that thing's like a foot away from your face.
[00:33:11] It makes me wonder like how many times,
[00:33:13] you're like out at night and there's something like in the shadows,
[00:33:18] just like watching and you don't know it's there.
[00:33:21] Yeah.
[00:33:21] So the next time you go to take the trash out and you feel like you're being
[00:33:24] watched.
[00:33:26] Maybe it's one of the pale crawlers waiting to eat you.
[00:33:29] All I could think of is that scene from SpongeBob working at the crusty crab
[00:33:32] at night,
[00:33:34] taking out the trash at night.
[00:33:38] Immediately runs inside.
[00:33:40] Slasher.
[00:33:40] Yeah.
[00:33:42] So overall,
[00:33:43] I think the pale crawlers,
[00:33:45] even if they are just an urban legend,
[00:33:47] it's very interesting.
[00:33:48] Makes a lot of good stories.
[00:33:49] If it's more than an urban legend.
[00:33:53] Oh,
[00:33:53] damn.
[00:33:53] That's,
[00:33:54] that is some scary shit that I would not really want to run into.
[00:33:57] Yeah.
[00:33:58] Not at all.
[00:34:00] And there's multiple,
[00:34:01] uh,
[00:34:02] like similar entities for out.
[00:34:03] Like Nate,
[00:34:04] like not just native folklore,
[00:34:06] like I was about to touch on,
[00:34:07] but I would like to revisit this in a future episode where we can maybe talk in
[00:34:11] more about the,
[00:34:12] uh,
[00:34:12] the backstories of the creepypasta and then how the links into the folklore for
[00:34:18] our time.
[00:34:18] We could totally revisit this in the future.
[00:34:20] Yeah.
[00:34:20] Many,
[00:34:21] many,
[00:34:21] many stories in this,
[00:34:22] uh,
[00:34:23] sort of,
[00:34:23] uh,
[00:34:24] genre of cryptid.
[00:34:25] If you're listening,
[00:34:26] let us know if that would be something you would be interested in.
[00:34:28] Also,
[00:34:29] if you have any personal accounts.
[00:34:30] Well,
[00:34:31] thank you so much for listening to this episode of enter the rift podcast.
[00:34:34] I think we ran into some pretty cool stories.
[00:34:37] Please leave a review,
[00:34:39] share it with your friends.
[00:34:40] Let us know what you think.
[00:34:42] That's about all.
[00:34:43] Peace.
